Primary and Secondary Care and Care for Children
(with AED)

This course builds CPR and use of AED skills along with secondary care to help in emergencies that relate to infants, children, and adults. This course is ideal for parents and childcare workers looking to prepare for emergencies involving children and infants. The course can be customised based on the groups requirements.

The program consists of a combination of two core components plus additional skills:

• Primary Care & Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Use of AED (adult, child and infant)
• Secondary Care (Assessment First Aid) (adult, child and infant)

Primary Care Core Components:

• Scene assessment, barrier use, primary assessment, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ‘CPR’ (adult, child and infant), Automated External Defibrillator 'AED' use (adult, child and infant) serious bleeding management, shock management, spinal injury management, conscious and unconscious choking management (Adult, child and infant) and concussion. We also touch on the mechanics of injury, physiology and how this varies in the age of the patient.

Secondary Care Core Components (First Aid):

• Injury assessment, illness assessment, concussion, stroke, seizures, dislocations and fractures, bandaging and splinting, sprains and strains, burns, wound cleaning, allergic reactions (incl. anaphylaxis) practical EpiPen use, hypo and hyperglycaemia, temperature related issues (heat exhaustion, heatstroke, hypothermia) and venomous bites and stings (snake bites, insect bites, fish spines, jelly fish etc) First Aid Kit Assembly and the use of Oxygen amongst others.

Format

This is an instructor and video led course, which focuses on practical experience. The final 2hrs is spent in realistic practical scenarios with actors.

Duration

Saturday, 15 May 2020 from 9am to 6pm.

Please ensure you wear clothing they are prepared to work on the ground with and get dirty outside during the scenarios.

T8 First Response (based in DB) will provide all the materials for the day (books that can kept by you), gloves, bandages etc.   They are one of the few certified EFR training centres in Hong Kong and have at our disposal some of the best training equipment in the market.
